Earthquake Drop, Cover & Hold On Drill

Friday, September 18, 2026 | 9:00 a.m.

As part of LAUSD emergency preparedness procedures, Olympic Primary Center students and staff will participate in an Earthquake Drop, Cover & Hold On Drill.

During the drill, students will practice what to do to protect themselves during an earthquake:

DROP – Drop to their knees and move away from windows.

COVER – Take cover under a desk or table and protect their head and neck.

HOLD ON – Hold firmly to the desk or table and remain in the protected position until instructed that the drill is over.

This is a practice drill only.

Students will remain in their classrooms. There will be NO evacuation of the school buildings for this drill.

Regular practice helps our students become familiar with these important safety procedures so they know how to respond calmly and appropriately in the event of an actual earthquake.

OPC also participates in larger earthquake emergency exercises during the school year that include evacuation and additional emergency response procedures.

Safety and preparedness are a priority at Olympic Primary Center.
